SPORTS MASSAGE THERAPY
HORSHAM, WEST SUSSEX
A sports massage can help speed up recovery time after activity and reduce the chance of getting an injury.
It uses a combination of different massage techniques to get a really deep muscle massage. Long, deep strokes to stretch and elongate the muscle, will push the lactic acid and toxins through your body and encourage good blood flow to the tissues.

Research shows that a regular sports massage can improve circulation, reduce stress and increase focus. Such benefits therefore can be enjoyed by everyone, not just athletes.

For instance; a sports massage could aid those sitting at a desk, relieving tension in the shoulders and neck.

Please contact me at Little River Sports Therapy for further information on how I can help you. I now work from 2 locations, New Street, Horsham and Rusper, look at either location to find an appointment.

What happens on my first visit to you?If it’s your first appointment with me than we will have a short consultation so I can find out a little bit about your lifestyle, work, exercise etc. This gives me a picture of where the most tension might be around your body. I will do a simple posture assessment to note where there might be tension, you can tell a lot from how someone stands! This will give me enable me to focus on different areas when I’m massaging, and I can really bespoke your treatment plan to suit you and your needs. But don’t worry, although the consultation may take a bit of time, I will ensure you still get a full hour on the couch. So please allow for about 15 mins extra if it’s your first time visiting me.

What should I do after a massage?Drink plenty of water, rest and get a good night’s sleep are the best things you can do after a massage. You may feel a little muscle soreness after a deep tissue massage, but this should be gone after 48 hours. Your body will be flushing out the toxins which the massage has pushed out of your system so it’s normal to feel fatigue, or thirsty or need to wee a lot! If you are worried about anything then please contact me.
-
Will a sports massage hurt?A sports massage is a deep tissue massage so naturally when you’re pressing and releasing tension in muscles there can be a little discomfort but it shouldn’t really hurt. However, I will warm the muscle up before starting any deep tissue work, I am always led by how each client feels and if it’s too much or it does hurt then please let me know, and I will adapt my technique.
-
What should I wear for a massage? For a full body massage I will ask you to undress down to underwear, and women to remove bras. However, I use towels which will cover the body and be moved to expose the limbs being massaged. If you’d feel comfortable sports shorts could be worn but not necessary. The towels will be tucked in to the underwear to ensure that the wax I use won’t stain.
-
Should I complete the consultation form each time?Yes. The form is there to inform me (your therapist) about any medical issues, medication or relevant information that will help me give you a better experience. Things change between appointments so it’s important to complete the form so we can make informed decisions on the type of treatment need.
-
I’m pregnant can I still have a massage?Unfortunately, I can not massage anyone that is pregnant, please contact myself and I can recommend another therapist that accepts pregnant clients.
-
How do I pay?I accept all major credit cards, cash and can do a bank transfer or payment link. Just ask me on the day.
-
Is there parking at either venue?Yes, there’s a small pay on foot car park opposite New Street Clinic. Please be careful if you park on the street as there are some restrictions in place. In Rusper there’s a public car park directly opposite the salon which is free, although there is a height restriction of 1.8m.
-
What medium do you use to massage?I use a beeswax or bees wax lotion made by a company called Songbird for all my massages. These waxes are not only better for me to grip and massage the skin but they are nourishing and less oily for the client, leaving the skin feeling wonderful after a massage. I also have a vegan friendly lotion available, and I will discuss this on the day.

How often should I get a massage?Everyone is different! It depends on the amount of activities/exercise you may do but I would recommend as an on going self-care, injury preventative treatment then a massage every 4-6 weeks is about right. But if you feel one more regularly would suit you better then that’s fine too!
